I've read every one of Olsen's books and this one is another great one. Often, my only way of knowing if it is Olsen's fiction or a true crime book is whether or not there is a photo section. Characters are realistic: Nevin is crazy enough to invoke fear, but same enough to not be a caricature. Just Try and Stop me starts similarly to how the other waterman-stark books do; I had a sense of dejavu for the first couple chapters, then it headed down an unfamiliar path, with Nevin taunting her self-proclaimed enemies and draws you in. Highly recommend it. Very disappointing. I have enjoyed the earlier entries in this series. Now the previous book ended with a haunting image of the notorious serial killer Brenda Nevins walking out of the maximum security prison with the female warden, apparently as a willing accomplice. This set the stage for the present book where Brenda uses the internet to taunt investigators as she is out to exact revenge and resumes her murderous ways. Now too much time was spent reinforcing the idea that Brenda is pure evil, a kind of female Hannibal Lecter. We already know that. Then, the violence in this one is over the top and, in my view, unnecessary. Lastly, the ending was unsatisfactory and seemed to kill off what had been an enjoyable series. It was as if the author suddenly lost interest in the characters and sent them off to pursue other careers. So, a disappointing conclusion to an interesting and unique partnership.
